On 12 August 2017 the Regional Sanlam Cancer Challenge was played at Bloemfontein Golf Club.
An initial field of 48 ladies was expected of which 28 came out to play and support the day.
This event endeavor to create awareness for cancer as many lives are touched through this illness, either by being a victim or having to support a victim by being a spouse, parent, child, family member or friend.
Our busy lifestyles contribute to the growing increase of persons diagnosed daily. Visits to clinics and doctors can ensure early detection and treatment can save lives.
All the Golf clubs in the country participated to raise funds and awareness for this great cause. The division winners of all the clubs then had the opportunity to play in the regional competition where the division winners received the wonderful prize of going to Sun City in October to participate in the National event where they will be treated to two rounds of golf on the prestigious Gary Player and Lost City Golf Courses.
The winners of the divisions in the Regional competition is Jadine Potgieter from Clocolan Golf Course in the A-division, Amanda Gericke from Schoemanpark Golf Course in the B-division and Rentia Classens in the C-division. They will be accompanied by Herna Els who will represent the Free State as President of the Free State Ladies Golf Union.
