The FSGU aims to be effective custodians of amateur golf in the Free State as per the Constitution of the Union, recording and preserving the history, traditions and integrity of the game in the province, but also creating an environment in which the game is accessible to all those who wish to participate. There are 45 clubs and over 5200 men golfers that are affiliated to the FSGU.

The following Provincial Teams are selected yearly:

Men IPT: Mid-Amateur IPT: Senior IPT: Super Senior IPT: Country Districts IPT and various Junior Teams with the most important Junior Team the Under 19 Team.

Players must play in specified tournaments and will be selected according to the Union’s selection criteria that could be found elsewhere on this website.

The FSGU runs a league competition and a number of championships as could be seen on the yearly fixture list.

All men’s golf in the Free State fall under the auspices of the FSGU, from the very young in the Junior Golf to the Super Seniors. The FSGU is also proud of its development program which has now moved into partnership with the SAGDB.

Many of the South Africa’s best golfers have represented the province in the recent past. Recent top performers are Dean Burmester and JB Kruger on the local PGA Tour as well as the European Tour.
